The worst is that it seems to be off on the step count by as much as 2/3. I tested it, and after taking 1000 steps (I counted every one), it measured about 350 of them.
The sleep tracking is helpful, but when I wake up in the morning I have a heck of a time trying to get it to sync. Most of the time I end up having to restart my phone entirely to get it to sync.
I tried so hard to justify it, because it is sleek and it looks nice, but unfortunately, I have to return it.
Other bonuses include:
Automatically syncs the time to your device
Lightweight, comfortable and minimalist design
Not needing to charge my watch as they rely on batteries, so it's 18 months before I replace them
Tracking sleep
Measuring heart rate
Prompts and tips
Water resistant (Swimming!)
Alarm in the form of vibrations
However, with that price point there are drawbacks.
- The sleep tracker is not very accurate, it would consider me sleeping when I was awake but not moving much (I understood that most watches aren't great sleep trackers anyways so it was an issue I could forego)
- Plastic casing - my watch got scratched the second day of use. There is an alternative glass watch face if you'd prefer (I am happy that this was quite an affordable watch that I didn't mind doing crazy things with so it was okay).
- Disconnecting regularly
- Inability to tell the time in the dark - I think this was new as most of my watches that I have owned, either digital or analogue was able to tell me the time (Maybe they could consider glow in the dark watch hands?)
- No GPS, no heart rate monitor etc
An extra bonus is that it does look really sleek on and its wristband is really comfortable. When I'm at work/on my computer for example, I barely notice/feel the watch on my wrist. Usually when it comes to watches, I'd be bothered while wearing a watch and typing and usually take the watch off. Not so with the Withings Move Hybrid Smartwatch, which I'm really pleased about.
Overall, this makes for a great entry/beginner smart watch for those looking for a comfortable, sleek watch to track everyday activities like walking, fitness, and sleep.
It's a plastic case with a plastic 'crystal' (for lack of a better word). And because of that it scratches incredibly easy. I scratched it within the first few weeks and was bummed, but got over it. Over the last ~8 months it's acquired many more small scratches that aren't really noticeable until you look at it in the light and see the shadow of the scratches reflected on the white watch face. I actually took it to a few watch shops to see if they would replace the 'crystal' with a real crystal, but they wouldn't touch it because it's a smart watch.
The stated battery life of 18 months was a joke (for me) and I needed to replace the battery after less than 6 months. I contacted Withings support and there was no warranty recourse as the stated 18 months is "...with the most conservative usage scenario." I will say that my battery might have drained more than a typical user as I wear this every night to track sleep and have a vibrating alarm at least 5 out of 7 days a week. That said, I almost never use the workout/activity tracking function (where you press the button twice to begin an activity).
I would also note that the silicone / rubber strap on the watch irritated my skin after a while (could be just me). However, I was basically wearing the watch 24/7 for tracking/time in the day and sleep tracking/alarm at night and morning. I bought some 3rd party woven nylon straps and haven't had the same issue (though the watch doesn’t look nearly as good as it does with the blue bands). It's likely due to accumulated sweat + silicone band.
Lastly, I just today ran into an issue where my hour hand stopped working. I went through all the steps of trying to sync, adjust it, factory reset, etc. and have contacted support. We'll see what they say and I'm still within my 1 year warranty for a few more months...
So with all those negatives, why am I still on the fence? Because:
• The watch is stunning and I've gotten more compliments and questions about it than any other watch I've owned. I also love that this doesn't look like an Apple Watch / Samsung Gear / moto360 or some other techie device -- it's simple, clean, elegant and easily slips under a dress shirt cuff (i.e., it’s not bulky or thick).
• It's very affordable (as far as watches go) and once I got over worrying about it getting scratched (because it did) I didn't have to baby it and can wear it everywhere (e.g., working out, paddle boarding, swimming, sleeping, work and the board room).
• Sleep tracking. look, I don't know how accurate it is as I have nothing else to compare it to, but I do think it's neat to see how long I've slept, what was light vs. deep, any interruptions, etc. And even if it isn't that accurate, it's at least consistently inaccurate so I can compare my sleep quality on a relative basis over days/weeks/months.
• Smart Alarm. I searched high and low for something simple that I could wear at night, track my sleep and provide me with a vibrating alarm so as not to wake the spouse in the morning. And this hit the mark perfectly. Now the 'smart' part of the smart alarm probably depends on how accurate the sleep tracking is. I can probably count on one hand how often it's woken me up in the middle or near the end of the alarm window that I set, but then oftentimes I don't set a big window.
So that's where I'm at. I still wear this daily, mainly because it tells time, looks simple and elegant, tracks my sleep and wakes me up with the vibrating alarm. I would happily pay more for a sapphire crystal however, and did see that they have a 'Timeless Chic' version that came out which includes a steel case and mineral glass, which at $10 more than the plastic version (sale right now), I might have to purchase and try out (but only after I hear back from Withings support on my current hour hand issue). Also, from some very limited research, it looks like mineral glass scratches much easier than sapphire crystal, so hard to say if it ends up being any more scratch resistant than the plastic 'crystal' ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

(Keine massig, riesige Protzer-Uhr)
Trägt sich sehr leicht und bequem.
