The dinosaurs are very similar in color, yellow/ less bright yellow, blue/ turquoise. It was even a bit difficult for me to sort out the two shades of yellow because they are the same dinosaur shape. I would have preferred if the colors had more difference in shading. The only other concern I had was that the eggs themselves don't seem completely sturdy. I haven't had a problem yet, but I keep worrying about when one is going to break. As a side note: if you lose one piece, the toy is not going to be completely functional, which stresses me out (I am saying this as I am hoping that my son borrowed one of the eggs for his road trip and that it is not lost because I can't find it anywhere.)
All in all, a very fun toy. It kept my kids entertained for quite a while, and it kept me scrambling to make sure all the dinosaurs were kept in the same place and not lost!

Jan 2018 Edit to add my so still loves these BUT they are a nightmare for math. My son ahs ADHD and cannot do math with these without befomi g distracted by color or species sorting. We homeschool and it is excruciating to get through a simple problem of 12 minus seven when your kid is compulsive about having 12 triceratops who must be sorted by color abd then must be color coordinated by to the appropriate trex for consumption...he usually cannot even remember what he was trying to add or subtract. We now use his KEVA planks for adding and subtraction. SO....if you are buying these for a child with ADHD to do adding and subtracting, I warn you, they may be too fun!
