43 month UPDATE - I bought the Oster DuraCeramic rice cooker Jun 2020 and did a review 2.5 years later in Dec 2022. I'm here Jan 2024 to buy my nephew the same rice cooker as a gift for his first apartment. Mine is still going strong, not a single scratch or any boo boo on the pot's surface or the exterior. The little plastic ring in the lid's hole went missing but luckily I had the foresight to save a couple of lids from previous rice cookers that I trashed. I use the Oster at least twice a week, sometimes more. Being Japanese-American, I mainly cook a medium grain (sticky) Calrose rice like Botan brand. But growing up in Austin Texas, I also use a long grain for my TexMex rice recipes and Indian dishes. Like I said in my first review, the only thing I don't like are the indicator LEDs and their indecipherable icons. Thus, the ghetto "Cook" label. See my uploaded pics.Original Review -I've gone through about 4 of these inexpensive rice cookers over the years until I found this Oster brand with the ceramic pot. To me, the other rice cookers were "disposable" due to the non-stick pot coating (Teflon?) getting scratched and/or getting chipped. Once they acquired scratches or chips, they went in the trash. After the last one went in the trash, I went looking on Amazon and decided to try out this Oster because of the ceramic pot feature.. I'm happy to report that I've been using it for the past 3 years and the ceramic pot is wonderful. Nothing sticks to it, it's very easy to clean (I only hand wash) and doesn't have even a tiny scratch on its surface (I only use plastic or wood rice paddles as with my other rice cookers). It perfectly cooks my Botan brand medium grain Calrose rice and several brands of long grain white rice.I feel this rice cooker only has two issues.1) Status lights on the front panel. They appear to be the same color when lit so a quick glance at the lights doesn't let you know whether it's cooking or just warming. I debated about disassembling the rice cooker to change one of the lights to a blue or green LED but decided I'd rather spend the time fishing or playing Arma 3. So I settled for a ghetto fix...a rectangular piece of paper with the word "Cooking" in size 14 bold font taped over the right side light.2) Like all rice cookers similar to this, it doesn't have a true "off" setting. I fixed that by ordering a grounded outlet with on/off switch. You plug the switched grounded outlet into your wall outlet and then plug the rice cooker into the switched grounded outlet. Search Amazon for "Grounded Plug with on off switch". I also used the same solution for my Instant Pot DuoI see that a couple of other brands now offer ceramic pots with their rice cookers but when I got mine, not even the uber expensive Japanese/Korean made rice cookers featured a ceramic pot. I love the toughness of a good ceramic coating enough that I replaced all my pots and pans with non-stick coatings to ones with a ceramic coating, mainly GreenPan brand, after the first year with my Oster rice cooker showed me the toughness of ceramic over teflon-like coatings.
