They are very bright at Max - low light is good but very low dimmed LED light just doesn't feel as soft. Luckily we don't dim to that level so it's been a good fit above our kitchen table.
They cost more up front for a reason - they use less energy and they last forever. So will 8 LED bulbs make a difference in your home energy bill? Yes but nothing hugely noticeable. Change every bulb out, add a smart Thermostat, insulate your attic, and you will notice a large difference. I switched all the lights - CFL and the warehouses Metal Halide - at my work - it's a 33,000-sqft building. We see savings of $2,000-$3,000 a month in our electric bill. So LED's consume FAR less energy than halogens, CFLs, and incandescents. Plus the life span is amazing! Same LED bulbs in my outdoor garage lamps have been operating off a dusk timer for 5-years.
THESE ARE THE COLOR BULBS YOU WANT
Sorry I had to get that out of the way.
The stereotype with LED bulbs is that they make whatever room you're in feel like a hospital because the light is always either super SUPER white, or slightly blue. That is not the case with these bulbs. 2200K-2700K is what you want to get a pleasing light
The K in those numbers stands for Kelvin and refers to color temperature. Basically, the higher the number, the "cooler" the color, meaning towards the blues and purples. The lower the number the "warmer" the colors, meaning yellows, oranges, and reds. These lights, at their max brightness are 2700K, which is "in my opinion" the perfect color temp for interior lights, as it mimics the warm glow of the incandescent light bulbs we've all grown up with. As you dim them, they get "warmer" reaching 2200K at their lowest dimness level
If you go for 3000K bulbs, expect a "cooler" color, ie closer to a bright white. Beyond there you will get more towards the bluish look that some may want but weren't what I was looking for.
However, these are dimmable. This is fine, it means it works well with a dimmer which I do have. But they do not dim! They turn on or off, and they don't flash when off like most LED lights that are not dimmable, so it is usable, but they do not adjust their light settings. I reduce the power, the light is the same. Reduce more, same. And more...same. When I am finally down to 50% it drops a touch.....very slightly, but you can see the difference at that point. Literally, 60% is full blast and 50% is just under full blast....about 95% luminosity. Drop it down to 20% and it drops another notch, maybe 90% of it's maximum luminosity. Then 10%, no change, and off....where it shuts off. So I can have it at Off, 90, 95, or 100% power when it should light up at Off, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, and 100%
So, I purchased dimmable lights, only to get lights that work with a dimmer but do not actually dim.
