Product Description

It's spring 1942, and the world is at war. Five major powers struggle for supremacy: Germany and Japan are aligned against the great alliance of the United Kingdom, the Soviet Union, and the United States. Designed for 2-5 players, the game is set in 1942 - the historical high-water mark of Axis expansion. Controlling one of the Axis or Allied powers, players will command both their country's military forces and its war-time economy, with the chance to plan attacks, marshal forces into embattled territories, and resolve conflicts. Victory will go to the side that conquers its opponents on the field of battle and liberates or occupies the greatest cities of the world. Change the course of history in a few short hours! New Miniature Sculpts: There are 5 new sculpts in the game including UK artillery, submarine and destroyer units; German artillery; and a Russian submarine. There's even an all-new combat unit: the Antiaircraft Artillery.

The Fate of Europe Depends Upon Your Courage

A tactical game by Larry Harris

Soldiers, sailors and airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Force, you are about to embark upon the great crusade towards which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you, the hopes and prayers of liberty-loving people everywhere march with you.

You are on the beaches of Normandy, and ahead lies an uncertain future. The fate of the world hangs in the balance, as you struggle for control over the cities of Cherbourg, St. Lo, and Caen. Savage, quick, and decisive, D-Day was the major turning point in the European theaters, with Liberty itself on the line. Designed for 2 or 3 players, Axis & Allies D-Day accurately captures this dramatic conflict and places you squarely in the middle of the greatest battle of the 20th century.

An Accessible and fun strategy war game
I have been playing various versions of Axis & Allies since I was a kid in the 1980s. I learned a lot from this game and have always enjoyed it. Recently, I bought this version to play against friends via FaceTime. One old friend got his kids to play and they seem to enjoy it.The more people you get to play, the more fun this game is. Two play the axis powers and three play the axis. Or two people can play - one as axis and one as allies.Basically you choose what ships, planes, infantry or tanks to buy and then plan your attacks. You roll the dice to see who wins each attack. Eventually one side wins based on how many objective cities (Paris, London, Berlin, etc.) each side holds.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun game and great during lockdown - Could do with some storage boxes for pieces

(Doesn't come with the storage boxes you see in picture - I made these)
Got this as a Christmas present to myself. I enjoy strategy games and my son is old enough to enjoy them with me. After looking at reviews I decided that this 1942 Second Edition was the best fit for me. It can seem complicated but if you play strategy games then you will get the idea soon enough. Even then you can go to a few online forums to answer any specific questions. Also, don't forget Uncle Youtube, there are some great short videos explaining the main rules etc.
One thing to note is that this is not a game to put up and take down again in an hour. It can take somewhere between 3-5 hours to play a half-decent game.
The game comes with all the pieces you need to play and unlike older versions, they represent their parent country. So America has Sherman whilst Germany has Tigers etc.
If I had one complaint it would be that the pieces only come in plastic bags. So as I have a 3D Printer, I decided to design and make my own :-) These are what you see in the picture.
All in all we have some really enjoyable games and as we had the spare time during lockdown it was great.
