About Coleman
More than 100 years ago, a young man with an entrepreneurial spirit and a better idea began manufacturing lanterns in Wichita, Kansas. His name was W.C. Coleman, and the company he founded would change life in America. A man plagued with such poor vision he sometimes had to ask classmates to read aloud to him, Coleman saw a brilliant light in 1900 in a drugstore window that stopped him in his tracks. He inquired about the light inside and discovered he was able to read even the small print on a medicine bottle by the illumination. The lamps had mantles, not wicks, and were fueled by gasoline under pressure instead of coal oil. Soon afterward, Coleman started a lighting service that offered a "no light, no pay" clause--a big step forward for merchants who were burned by inferior products that rarely worked--and drew substantial interest from businesses that wanted to keep their lights on after dark.

In the ensuing years, Coleman expanded its product line well beyond lanterns. The company's current catalog is thick with products that make spending time outdoors a pleasure. There are coolers that keep food and drinks cold for days on end, comfortable airbeds that won't deflate during the night, a complete line of LED lights that last for years, powerful portable grills that cook with an authentic open-grill flame, and much, much more. Coleman has truly fashioned much of our outdoor camping experience, and expects to do so for generations to come.

Advice from a Coffee Vet
5 Stars
Advice from a Coffee Vet
I'm going to help you have a good experience. • • •We'll start with the most common complaint, the knob. When you finish brewing, don't put the *hot-glass-knob* under cold water or on a cold surface. Let it air cool on the lid at least 30 minutes before cleaning. • • •The knob needs to sit loosely, don't tighten it to the lid. Glass and metal don't have the same expansion rate with temperature change. It's fine if it moves or shakes, because it's meant to be removed frequently for cleaning anyway. • • •Bring the kettle up to heat *without* the basket/stem in the kettle -but keep the lid on so rising steam can warm the knob before you start blasting hot liquid at it. You don't have to wait long; once you hear boiling water and see steam pouring out the spout, just wait like another minute or two, then drop the basket/stem in. • • •I never have issues with coffee finding its way out of the kettle... and it's probably best we don't know what unholy rituals those people are committing. • • •When you're first getting the kettle up to temp, use that time to prep fresh grounds for the basket, and don't forget the inner basket lid because it's for distributing water on the grounds evenly. • • •For those who have issues with coffee grounds escaping the basket, making a mess in the kettle:1.) Your grounds likely aren't anywhere near course enough. * * *2.) Use a bur grinder. A blade grinder won't give you a consistent grind. * * *3.) You probably have the heat too high. Excessive percolation fills the basket too fast which is why you have a translucent knob, it lets you gage percolation speed. * * *4.) You could be adding too much coffee grounds. * * *5.) You're shaking the basket after adding grounds; shifting them around jams the holes. • • •If you keep having issues with the basket holes clogging, try using Percolator Disc Filters (3.75 inch), but pay attention to avoid grabbing filters stuck together (you'd be surprised how easily this happens), that will create flow issues too. Reusable Cotton Percolator Filters are also an option. Personally, I'd just grab a 1mm drill bit, add a few more holes and remove any burs -problem solved. • • •Another tip. Don't use a rag to grab something that is both hot and wet -like the basket after it just finished brewing. If you don't have time to wait for the basket to cool, then insulated rubber gloves are your friend. • • •Don't confused typical cup measurements with the coffee industry's standard of a "cup" (which is 5oz). This kettle holds 8 U.S. cups. Keep the water level just below the bottom holes of the spout before you start a boil. • • •If you're seeing discoloration in your kettle, what you're probably seeing is "lime scale", hard water deposits or burnt up coffee residue/oil. Use dish soap and a metal scrub brush to clear it. Don't boil coffee down to a dry chamber unless you want to be scrubbing for a long time. • • •No, a magnet will not stick to a modern kettle. Most food grade stainless steels (18/8, 304, etc) are 'austenitic' (Google it). Stainless steel doesn't mean maintenance free, they might be 'corrosion resistant' (stainless), but they're not 'stainfree', so don't neglect cleaning and drying all the parts routinely. All cookware demands good hygiene. • • •I'd advise against using a dark roasted coffee for a percolator, but to each their own. If you find yourself unsatisfied with your brews, give this a try: Pick up "Lavazza Espresso Italiano Whole Bean Medium Roast" (I buy 2.2 pound bags), grind them coarsely, drop in 8 tablespoons of grounds, percolate on low for 10 mins, dump the grounds, clean the basket, then add ANOTHER 8 tablespoons of grounds (it's madness I know.. but madness just might be what your soul needs) and percolate again on low for another 10 mins. It's not a cowboy's brew, but it kicks. My last advice is to just experiment. Pay attention to everything you do so you can replicate a good brew. Don't throw the percolator at the wall if you find yourself having trouble reaching a target brew. They don't call coffee an art for no reason. Be patient, be persistent and enjoy experimenting. Cheers!

I have not used this yet but what can I expect, it is a percolator pot. Water will boil and it will make coffee. I am impressed with the construction because it is much heavier than I anticipated it would be. I hope this reflects to the longevity of its life. I am however disappointed by the huge dent in the bottom of it right out of the box. There was no damage to the box. They do offer that I could return it and they will send me a replacement but really it is just too much hassle for me to go drop it off.
